Start the first phone case printing with BR-S1800 flatbed printer

Preparations:

1) BR-S1800 eco solvent direct to substrate printer
2) Software BrotherjetRIP V8.2.3
3) IPHONE4 blank case
4) iPhone4 case jig
5) Pictures need to print

Picture preprocessing:

1) Cut the picture to fit the actual phonecase size.

Using photoshop or similar software to cut the photo according to the actual proportion of the phone case. The length and width should be a little bit larger than the phone case but its proportion should be the same, to make sure the full body of the case will be printed.

2) Photo typesetting on a jig file.

With the help of PHOTOSHP/ILLUSTRATOR to do the typesetting.
1. Put the photo into the corresponding slot positions on the jig.
2. Save as JIG /TIF/EPS after the typesetting.

The red dotting frame is the frame of jig, as well as the typesetting file frame, please keep it for the right printing position.

Printing position setting:
1) Way 1:By printing Coordinate:
1. By printing coordinate we can locate the printing position easily and accurately.
2. Open the coordinate file with the RIP software, set the output: X=0, Y=0, output size: width=33cm, the height with adjust automatically.(For the formula mode of the software there will be a little bit error between the actual size and the real pho to size.)

Way 2: By printing Jig photo directly on the platform

1. By printing jig photo we can locate the printing size actually.
2. Open the jig file with Rip software, set the output:X=1; Y=1, output position:Width=30CM,hight will adjust automatically.Size of the Jig is:30CM*58CM
(For the formula mode of the software there will be a little difference between the actual size and the real photo size)

3. Put the jig on the platform where the Jig photo/Coordinate is printed.

Height adjust

1. Make sure the jig is firmly on the platform, no movement occurs during printing, otherwise malposition may happen.
2. Put each blank case into the slot position on the jig, make sure all the cases are at the same horizontal.
3. Press UP button the platform will go up, leave a 2-3mm space between the printer head and the surface of case.
(Notice: Automatic Height adjustment will not work on transparent materials, will need manual adjustment)

Start printing

1. Printing setup on the software.
1) Size and Position

1, Using typesetting files, we can print with high actual position.
2, Open the typesetting file by Rip software, set the output: X=1,Y=1, output position: width=30cm, height will adjust automa tically

2. Printing process
1, Backward the platform to the end, otherwise error report may happen.
2, Color printing set, as shown in the picture.

The process of the garment ink

1. Only print color inks on garment

  • Temperature for heat press: 330F—340F(166oC—170oC)
  • Time for pressing: 60S
  • Pressure: Low
  • Silicone paper on the garment before the pressing

Only print white inks on garment

First step: Pressing garment use the heat press machine with high pressure, It can ensure the t-shirt Cotton fiber becomes smooth. So that you can print graphics

Time for pressing:90 – 120S

Pretreatment
The print Area is 14cm*17cm, The amount of the treatment liquid is 20-25g(0.7 0z.-0.9 Oz.)
Most of treatment liquid will block the white ink permeate into the cotton, The white ink float on the t-shirt cotton, it can washed off by water, the image will Peel or crack. Used right amount treatment liquid can ensure print quality and washing degrees.

Step 2 After the Pretreatment

  • A. Silicone paper on the garment before the pressing
  • B. Temperature for heat press: 330F—340F(166oC—170oC)
  • C. Time for heat press: 30s-45s
    This time is to be observed to steam treatment liquid (smoke) in the hot pressing process, which can ensure the clothes are dried, the treatment liquid has been evaporated.
  • D. Pressure: Heavy
    Pressing garment use the heat press machine with heavy pressure, It can ensure the t-shirt Cotton fiber becomes smooth. So that you can print graphics

Correct Pre-treatment

The image below represents a shirt that has been properly pre-treated, printed, heat-pressed and subsequently washed through three (3) industrial washes. Note the white underbase and color retention.

This is a properly treated, printed and post-treated shirt.

 

Insufficient Pre-treatment

If too little pre-treatment solution is applied, the white ink will have a mottled appearance after printing. This is due to an insufficient amount of pre-treatment to keep the white ink layer on the surface (the ink soaks into the fibers of the shirt).

An example of insufficient pre-treatment:

 

Excessive Pre-treatment

Applying too much pre-treatment solution will provide you with a very good looking print prior to washing. However, excessive application of pre-treatment will cause poor wash fastness and durability. The white layer becomes much more susceptible to flaking off of the shirt in a wash if too much pre-treatment is applied.

Below, the shirt with an excessive amount of pre-treatment looks very good after printing and pressing:

The same shirt, with excessive pre-treatment solution applied is shown below after washing. This shirt exhibits cracking and loss of color associated with too much pre-treatment being applied.

The step up after white and color ink printing

  • A. Temperature for heat press: 330F—340F(166oC—170oC)
  • B. Time for heat press: 90s – 120s
  • C. Pressure: Low
  • D. Silicone paper on the garment before the pressing

Washing method
When finished printing and heat pressing, Start washing after one day.

How to input the artwork into the brotherjet RIP and print the image?

1. Imput the artwork into the CorelDRAWor Illustrator

2. Imput the card jig artwork into the CorelDRAWor Illustrator

3. File layout

4. Export file

5. Input the card file into the Brotherjet RIP

6. Setting the RIP Parameter

7. Clean the card and put the card on the card jig

8. Put the card jig on the right position.

Now ,everything is Ok! let’s printing !

How to print the white ink on materials?

We have learned to print color ink in the user manual, Now let’s learn to print white ink. the white ink printing has some different with the color ink printing. We should print white ink first, and then print color ink again. So, the setting of rip software has a few differences. Please pay attention.

Please follow these steps:

1. Please open the  software with Brotherjet ARTISRIP V8.3.

2. Import the artwork into the Brotherjet software.

3. Setting the “layout”
It is the same with the color ink printing, we should check the “paper size”/ “output position”/”output size”, and the “scale” must be “ture”.

4. Setting the “printer”
Please choose the right machine type \USB port\Image type\feeding \speed.
The important thing is we should choose the resolution (white) and the resolution (color) at the same time . So please set them with the suitable DPI.

5. Setting the ” color”, and choose the right ink type. then setting the ink limit about color ink and white ink .
According to your material, The color ink limit is about 15%-25%, the white ink limit about 30%.

6. Open the print box, and let’s print the white ink first. We should set the “copies”. white copies setting is “1″; color copies setting is “0″.

when the white ink printing is ok. please press the “back” button, then the working table will go back home.

NOTE: Don’t move the material, and if you think the white ink is not enough white, you can print white ink again.

7. Open the “print box” again. setting the “copies” again.

8. Click the “print” again, then we can print the color ink.
