The daily maintenance of the flatbed printer head

The nozzles of the flatbed printer heads are very tiny like the air dust. If any dust comes into the head nozzle or even the air comes into the nozzles, the head will blogged which will cost bad printing result. In this case, the maintenance of the head becomes very important for the daily operation of the machines:

(1) Keep the new head with the plastic package. All the new heads from Epson will have wet-keeping-liquid or we can call it protecting liquid with the plastic. So we had better to keep the new head in the.

(2) Do not take the printer head away from the machine or keep it in a high temperature environment. We can put the head into alcohol if we need to keep the head for a longer time or the head will be easily damaged.

(3) Do not touch the head nozzles with hand or any other hard tools. Do not clean the head with the paper, normal cloth, or glass cloth.

(4) Do not turn off the machine when we are making the printing. Firstly we can make the printer into OFF LINE status and put down the cover of the machine.

(5) If we will not use the machine for longer time which is more than 5 days. We need to keep the printer head in the professional way which will be explained in our next article.

How to manage it when the flatbed printer is blocked up?

If the head of the flatbed printer is blocked up, it needs to be cleaned by the following methods:

A.Software cleaning
It will make clean automatically, through the maintenance function of the flatbed printer’s driver.

B.Ink pumping cleaning
When the flatbed printer ink lie in the initial position, using the syringe with tube attached to the discarded ink tube, abstracting about 5ml ink at full tilt. Please don’t make the syringe’s inner tank rebound, in that case it will make the each spray nozzle blend. In the process of ink pumping, if the sprayer protector is not seal tightly you can move the ink machine gently by hand so as to ensure the spray nozzle and sprayer protector is well sealed. You need to go on the software cleaning after the ink pumping.

C.Syringe and pump cleaning
Emigrate the ink machine, pull out the ink sac tube, connect the syringe contains cleaning fluid with the sprayer tattooing needle, bolus and pumpback with the fitable pressure, until the sprayer can spout intact hairline vertically.

D.Printing cleaning
Use the sprayer cleaning fluid replace the ink which has blocked the spray nozzle, using the vector graphic software to print the blob of this color, until the sprayer block phenomena is cleaned up.

Remark:100%C is the blue ink, 100%M is the red ink, 100%Y is the yellow ink, 100%K is the black ink, 30%C is the light blue ink, 30%M is the light red ink, 60% is the light black ink, 30% is the lighter black ink.

3.The features for Continuous working.

4. The inks.

If all the hard parts are ok, now comes to the point of the printers’ blood-INK. Many of the factories are using the inks local made in China which are still far away from high end in order to save cost. But many clients are wasting money by changing heads often. Since bad ink will need us to change the ink very often by making head blogging and drying in the ink CISS system. There are some types of the inks as following:

A: Inks need coating. (This is the type made in China mainly and used also here by the factories). We need to apply the coating or lacquer before printing by spray or brushing on the materials before printing. The bad points for this ink are: The coating has strong smell and it is harmful to the environment and human; the coating will damage the surface of certain materials including the crystal and glass.
B: Direct ink. (Mainly made in Korea and Taiwan, China). This type of ink is stronger in terms of stability performance. There is no need to use the coating before printing.
C: Textile ink or it is called Water based ink which is mainly used for garment printing.

5.The back-up Service.

Now many people are buying printer only for its lower cost mainly. This is not the right point. If the printer’s price is low, then the service must be also low. As flatbed printer is not big goods or deal, it is hard for the suppliers in China to provide the door-to-door service on site. In this case, the online support or remote support becomes more important. How Does a Flatbed Printer Work?

Digital Flatbed

Digital flatbed printers fill the gap between offset printing and silk screening by providing a way to apply an image to rigid, flat or unevenly surfaced objects. The process will print shapes ranging from coffee cups and injection-molded acrylic, glass objects, furniture and wooden doors. Commercial printing operations generate the bulk of flatbed-printed materials.

Dimensional Printing

To use a digital flatbed printer, the operator places a printing medium (pen, glass, whatever) on the flat bed of the printer, or in a delivery tray that sits on the flat bed. Mechanical locks or a vacuum secure the printing medium as it slides through the printer. If the medium were to slip, the printed image would be out of register (think out of focus) and unusable. On command, the printing medium moves through the printer, passing under the print heads and, in some cases, under a UV lamp that instantly cures (dries) the ink.


Digital flatbed printers use the primary “subtractive” (subtracts color from a white base) ink colors—cyan, magenta, yellow and black (CMYK)—as opposed to their smaller desktop cousins who are based on the visually “additive” (adds color to black) primary colors of light, red, green and blue (RGB).
Also unlike desktop printers, flatbed printers provide for the application of “spot” colors including white (necessary, as the print medium may not be white) and varnish, which many of the printers can apply as a spot color, a process color or over the entire image.
UV-cured inks, as in letterpress and other “fine” printing, also have dimensionality. That is, the ink dries on the surface of the print media so it rises above the surface in a way that lets you can feel the ink, almost as if it had been hand-painted.


A short list of applications for flatbed printing includes retail point of purchase and point of sale material, in-store advertising, indoor and outdoor signage (construction, real estate and theatrical signs, for instance). Additional applications involve sales promotion materials (pens, money clips, coffee cups and the like), trade show display panels and signs, special events graphics, interior design, product decoration, furniture and fine art (originals printed on a collage, or painting prints reproduced on mounted and stretched canvass, for example).

1, Guards against the static interference. Static electricity will disturb the regular operation of equipment, like uneven output of the ink, corrupt print head and the main board.

To keep the environment of the flatbed printer in humidity (60%) and the temperature above 25 degree. Ensure equipment power source should be connected with the ground correctly by three plugs.

The operator should wash his hands before operating the flatbed printer and the whole process should be subject to the user manual. The machine and the power should be cut off once problems happen and check the work environment immediately to avoid possibility of continuous charging.

2, The ink should be taken out from the pipeline and dampers if the flatbed printer will not be used for a long time. Wash the head with the cleaning liquid.
